Diego García Rodríguez

Diego García Rodríguez is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the School of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy, University of Leicester, and the founder and lead of the Global LGBTIQ+ Asylum and Forced Migration Observatory (GLASO). He is also the founder of the Queer(y)ing Asylum Symposium, established in 2023, and the Queer(y)ing Asylum Podcast. Previously, he was a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the University of Nottingham.

 

His research focuses on LGBTIQ+ asylum and forced migration, with particular interests in religion, sexuality, health inequalities and the lived experiences of displaced communities. Diego has previously conducted research with queer Muslim communities in Indonesia, LGBTIQ+ asylum in the UK, and the intersections between religion, sexuality and displacement. He is committed to developing research that is collaborative, ethically grounded and shaped by the knowledge and priorities of affected communities.
