Bea Camminga (they/she) is a Lecturer at the University of Bristol (UK) and a Research Associate at the African Centre for Migration & Society, University of the Witwatersrand (SA). Their work focuses on issues relating to gender identity and expression on the African continent with a focus on migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Their first monograph, Transgender Refugees and the Imagined South Africa, won the 2019 Sylvia Rivera Award in Transgender Studies and received an honourable mention for the Ruth Benedict Prize. They are co-editor of the award winning volume Queer and Trans African Mobilities (2022) and East African Queer and Trans Displacements (2026).
