GOVERNANCE

Calogero Giametta

Calogero Giametta is a sociologist and Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Leicester. His interdisciplinary research spans migration studies, criminology and queer studies, with a longstanding focus on queer asylum, migration control and the governance of sexuality and gender in Europe. His work has examined LGBTQ+ asylum, forced migration and the effects of anti-trafficking policies on migrant sex workers across France, Italy and the UK. More recently, his research has turned to ageing and LGBTQ+ migration, exploring how histories of mobility and social change have shaped queer lives since the 1960s. He is currently Principal Investigator of the Leverhulme Trust-funded project Ageing LGBTQ+ Lives in the UK and Italy: Criminalisations and Migrations (2025–2027), which uses life-history research and participatory filmmaking to examine ageing, migration and queer belonging across the UK and Italy.
