RESEARCH APPROACH

Lived Experience Driving Research
and Ethics

The project uses a mixed-methods, participatory, and decolonial research framework.

It is grounded in the principle that people with lived experience should shape not only the evidence produced but also the ethical, analytical and political directions of the work. The project therefore combines cross-country comparison with close attention to local contexts, collaborative knowledge production and art-based methods.

These approaches are designed to create richer forms of evidence, support more inclusive forms of participation, and open up different ways of communicating research beyond academic audiences. The project also works through regional steering committees and an Alternative Ethics Board to ensure accountability to the communities at its centre.

Participatory and creative methods are central to the project.
